SHORT FILM DOCUMENTARY
We wanted this to be a piece of work that would be an authentic representation of people in this age group-A project that breaks some of the negative stereotypes and maybe changes the adult viewer's mind about this generation, while also being a validating experience for young people who will see themselves in the kids who are featured and be inspired and affirmed. We also set out to focus on some of the really heavy things that are affecting this generation, like the bullying and the increased suicide rate. While we do dive into those things in this piece, as the project went on and these kids spoke for themselves, we decided that we wanted to be really careful not to make this too heavy, and strike a good balance between their challenges and their triumphs, because we didn't want this project to feel like another criticism of young people.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT
The first time the featured youth came to the studio, they were photographed for the still image exhibit portion of this project, and we wanted the images to be a nice peek into who they are right now at this moment in their lives. Each of them were involved in deciding what they wanted to convey in their image, and how they wanted to beseen. They got hair, makeup and styling. and then each young person was in charge of choosing which of their images from the photoshoot would be hung in the exhibit.

THE MISSION
GIVING A VOICE TO A GENERATION THAT IS OFTEN MISREPRESENTED
The "tween" phase is an age of becoming, of transformation! This project is the right-of-passage that is missing in our culture today. This is a chance for our youth to share their hobbies, their talents, and their passions, but also their struggles and triumphs. Through the process of creating an image that expresses everything they are and everything they are going through, the experience of being photographed, of being seen-This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will transform them, change the way they see themselves, solidify their identity and give them new confidence. The In|Between project does something incredible for the youth who are featured, but it also shapes the way the world sees them, creating a new narrative about this age group, and giving an authentic voice through representation in a documentary film and photo exhibit.
